Getting to Birmingham By Road

Birmingham is surounded by a number of Motorways. The M1, M5, M6, M6 Toll, M40 and the M42. These provide a link from birmingham to the North, the South West and the M40 will take you right into London.

From the South-West

For west and central Birmingham, you should take the M5 and exit at junctions J1 for West Bromwhich, J2 for Dudley, J3 for Birmingham city centre following the A456 (Hagley Road) until you arrive in the centre, or J3 where following the A38 (Bristol Road) will take you into the city centre. For south Birmingham you should take the M5 and then the M42 at J4a. Junctions J2 and J3 will then take you into south Birmingham.

From the South-East

If you're hading for the south, west or east of Birmingham you should use the M40 and then the M42. Leaving at J5 for Solihull and J6 for Birmingham International Airport and the NEC. If you are headed for north Birmingham it would probably be better to take the M1 and then the M6. Leaving at J6 taking the A38(m) into the city cenre.

From the North-West

Taking the M6 south and exiting at J6 onto the A38(M) will take you into the city centre. If you wish to go to west Birmingham you should exit the M6 onto the M5 at J8.

From the North-East

Take the M42 south and then the M6 North (West) leaving at J6 onto the A38(M).

Getting to Birmingham By Rail

The main train station in the City is Birmingham New Street. This is the central hub of the national rail network and as a consequence provides a rail link to anywhere in the country. There are plans to completely transform the station over the next number of years to make it a modern and more comfortable place to catch a train. Birmingham also has two other main stations, these are Snow Hill and Moor Street. They are both on the same line but not connected to New Street. A tram link currently opperates from Snow Hill to Wolverhampton.

Getting to Birmingham By Air

Birmingham International Airport is located 15-20 minutes East from the city centre and has great access by rail from Birmingham New Street and is just of junction 6 of the M42. The Airport has its own station, Birmingham International, where a mono rail will take you to the termanals in about 90 seconds. A single adult fare to Birmingham International from New Street will cost around £2.70. There are over 50 airlines providing links to more than 100 destinations, whilst providing all of the facilites you would expect from a large regional airport.
