Broad Street
Many of Birmingham's bars are located throughout a couple of locations in the city. The most notorious of which is Broad Street. Broad Street is located fairly close to Birmingham centre and is only a 10 minute walk from Birmingham's main train station, Birmingham New Street. Broad Street must have nearly 20 bars and clubs located within 1 half mile. This of course means that it is a Mecca for many weekend benders in Birmingham.Brindley Place
Just off Broad Street is Brindley Place. This is a fairly new development to Birmingham city centre and you can find a number of more upmarket bars here than on Broad Street.The Arcadian
Another area of Birmingham where you can find a gaggle of pubs is the Arcadian in China Town. The Arcadian is only a 5 minute walk from Birmingham New Street and is home to a number of bars and restaurants, with a number of them having a Chinese theme.Summer Row
You can also find a couple of bars in Summer Row. This road can be found just behind the Birmingham City Library. All Bar One - Brindley Place [map]
A fairly typical All Bar One located in Brindley Place with some good outside tables overlooking the canal. All the wines and continental lagers that you would expect from this chain, with impressive racks of wine behind the bar. Normally home to a few suits and sensible types but one of the better bars in Brindley Place.
Apres - Summer Row [map]
This Birmingham bar is located on the fashionable Summer Row. This is away from the Ben Sherman crowd who populate most of the Broad Street bars on a Friday night, so it's already got something going for it. On the rare warmer summer nights you can sit outside and watch a few of the Beautiful People strut along the road. However, should the evening temperature give you the smuggling peanuts look, you can step inside and find an interesting decor. If red leather and faux stone are your thing, then you'll be quite happy to sink 1,2 or 8 in here. if you're waiting for the next pay cheque to arrive it is worth noting that they offer a limited menu and a bottle of plonk for 2 for £15 Mon-Thur.Bacchus - Burlington Arcade, New Street [map]
Now, this is a strange place! We have only just found this bar tucked under the Burlington Hotel so it's easily missed. You may first notice the wall paintings as you climb down the stairs which have a very god like theme. Once in through the doors though, you may start to think you've taken a wrong turn as you feel you may have stepped back in time, or on to a film set. The decor in here is very much done out in a medieval style. Lots of suits of armour, high backed chairs and theatrical drapes! It's so different it's great. There is a champagne bar, should you want to splash out, but you'll feel just as grand with a pint of the fizzy stuff at one of the secluded tables.
Bank Bar - Brindley Place [map]
Don't come in here if you fancy a quick cheap drink. This is a good sophisticated Birmingham bar and excellent restaurant. It's done out in a modern contemporary style so expect lots of air con pipes and stuff hanging from the ceiling. Good selection of spirits, which is good as there's about one larger on tap - but that's not a bad thing really.Bar Room Bar - The Mailbox [map]
Fancy listening to a DJ whilst tucking into a stone baked pizza and a Peroni? BRB can be a funky little hang out and often have a number of DJ's supplying a few tunes to keep your foot tapping. Even on a Sunday when you should be thinking about going back to work and not necking the booze you can find a jumpy little crowd spinning around, and you may even see some crazy kids break dancing. Nice bar this. Mostly seems to be busy with everyone having a beer after work though. Appears to be pretty quiet as its mainly surrounded by offices so not that busy at the weekend.The Jam House - St Paul's Square [map]
Supported by Jools Holland, the Jam House offers three floors of fantastic musical entertainment, located in St Paul's Square in the Jewellery Quarter. In the evenings you will find some great live music performances, where the Jools Holland and Friends band occasional play. There is also a tremendous restaurant that can cater for corporate events or just a social dinner. The Jam House really is worth visiting if you're in town.
