Symphony Hall
Birmingham has one of the best acoustic concert venues in the world. Symphony Hall opened in Birmingham in 1991 and has gained world wide acclaim as probably being the best concert hall in the UK if not the world. This fantastic sound stage is home to the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra who regularly perform in this amazing auditorium. Every Friday evening you can find a jazz band nestled into Symphony Hall treating those walking past, prehaps walking back home from work through the ICC, to some soothing sounds. Now into its second year, this free performance is a perfect way to forget about work and to start the weekend. Carling Academy Birmingham
For something a little more 'raw' than Symphony Hall, a visit to the Carling Academy should do. Carling Academy Birmingham is in fact made up of three venues. There is the main Carling Academy holding around 2,500 people, the Carling Academy 2 which holds 400/600 and the smaller and more initmate Bar Academy which holds 290 people.
